Discover the unique beauty of granulating watercolors in this immersive class, where students will learn specialized techniques to create rich, textured washes and dreamlike effects. Using Gansai Tambi’s granulating watercolors, we will explore blooming techniques to bring depth and texture to our paintings. Students will be guided through the process of creating an ethereal, fantasy-inspired dreamscapes, embracing the unpredictable and organic nature of watercolor.

This class is perfect for both beginners and experienced painters looking to expand their skills and experiment with expressive, atmospheric painting styles. By the end of the session, students will have an artwork and the confidence to continue their exploration of granulating watercolors at home. Each participant will also receive their own Gansai Tambi watercolor set, ensuring they can continue their creative journey beyond the classroom.

Small Sculpture: Silver Clay Charms

Learn the basics of small sculpture through charm making with mixed media artists Kenya Diaz + Kenley Turner using the magical medium, Silver Clay! Silver clay is sculpt-able clay made out of real fine silver, that can be turned into any shape or form, and then fired. Learn jewelry basics like how to create and carve clay into shapes, use molds, and set dazzling stones. Experience the firing and finishing process, and understand how you can continue using this medium at home. Take home your beautiful hand crafted charms and a silver chain. 

*Each student will receive a 5 gram package of silver clay, zirconium crystals, and a sterling silver chain. 

*Students will pick up their fully finished charm bracelet the following week.

Hikaru Dorodongos In The Garden

Location: If weather is permitting we will meet at Twelve Hills Nature Center ; If weather is inclement we will host the workshop at Oil and Cotton 2313 Beatrice St. #100 Dallas, TX 75208

Join us in the beautiful neighborhood nature preserve, for a step by step how to make a dorodango. What is hikaru dorodango? It's the Japanese art form of polishing a mud ball into a perfect sphere. Use this time to build community and appreciate nature together. Continue this practice to use soil from memorable places in your life and create keep sakes for them. This is a mindful, kinesthetic, sensory experience meant to put you into the "flow state" of making.

All materials are provided, along with cookies and tea. Please bring a water and sun protection 

*If weather is permitting and we meet at the nature preserve, we will be sitting on picnic blankets. Students may want to bring an outdoor folding chair if ground sitting is anticipated to be uncomfortable.

Get in the Halloween Spirit painting magical creatures! 

Discover the unique beauty of portraying fantasy in this immersive class, where students will learn specialized techniques to create rich, textured washes and dreamlike effects. Using granulating, fluorescent, and mineral watercolors, we will explore blooming techniques to bring depth and texture to our paintings. We will experiment with various color combinations to create a final monochromatic image that speaks to us. Students will be guided through the process of creating an painting magical creatures on hand made paper. We will embellish our pieces with metallic and sparkly gel inks. 

This class is perfect for both beginners and experienced painters looking to expand their skills and experiment with expressive, atmospheric painting styles. By the end of the session, students will have an artwork and the confidence to continue their exploration of granulating watercolors at home. Students will also learn to mount their finished piece onto a wood block for an archival finish.

We will also be enjoying drinks and snacks of course! Students will receive a kit included with the price of the workshop.

Learn how to create, print, and distribute your very own zine — a self-published booklet or magazine filled with anything you want: art, poetry, comics, stories, or personal reflections! Zines are a powerful way to share your creative voice, and in this class, we’ll dive into hands-on, analog methods — no computers needed.

What to Bring: Please gather drawings, collage materials, poetry, or any other content you'd like to include in your zine. We’ll spend the class assembling these into a finished zine.  
Pro Tip: Choose a theme and collect materials that align with it for a more cohesive zine!
