Adding Coziness To Workshops + Black History Month
In honor of Black History Month, I want to highlight Kessler Baking Studio, the black-owned bakery that creates the treats that are served at all my workshops. Curating a zen, safe, third space for people is a big part of the process of creating a workshop. It’s not just about the art education or the project, although those things are important as well. It’s also about cultivating a community space where people feel welcomed and invited. Making art is natural for me, but for others, that isn’t the case, and having an environment where people feel okay to open up involves details. Yummy, comforting food is a really great way to do that! That’s where Kessler Baking Studio comes into play.
Delicious Rice Crispy Treats
3 Reasons Why Kessler Baking Studio is the best bakery to supply treats for artist workshops
The Rice Crispiess
One of the things I really love serving at the workshops is Kessler Baking Studio’s Rice Crispy Treats. As you can see from this image, they are huge. Cutting them up into bite-sized pieces makes for a delicious handheld snack to banter. This makes a great, affordable option to serve lots of guests at a time. When budgeting for a workshop, the funds for extra things like snacks are limited, but you don’t want quality to suffer. These Rice Crispies are a mouth-watering option that artists can get behind. I used to go to other bakeries and would end up going over budget, but Kessler Baking Studio does not inflate its prices and still serves the best. They are the people’s bakery.
Also, these rice crispy treats come in many flavor options that you can match to the season or theme of your workshop. For winter workshops, I like to go with the cinnamon crispy for a warm, spicy vibe. The strawberry crispy matches a spring and summer theme really well, and of course, you can’t beat the classic crispy, so I always include that one as well.
The Shortbread Cookies
Heating a kettle with floral, herby, aromatic tea is a great way to create a cozy space. The perfect pairing for this is a great shortbread cookie. I don’t even usually like shortbread cookies, because they tend to be hard, crummy, and flavorless. But Kessler’s are still buttery, soft, and rich with flavor. For yesterday’s dreamscapes workshop, I thought the cherry almond cookie would be a wonderful addition. It had a beautiful flower stamp on the cookie, and the cherry almond flavor reminded me of early emerging spring in Texas. It was sweet, floral, and I probably could’ve eaten the entire bag if I wasn’t about to teach a class. The cookies are sold by the bag, and so again, you’re able to serve many great quality cookies for a low price.
They Make It Stress Free.
There’s nothing like preparing for a workshop and feeling stressed out trying to get all the little details right. Kessler Baking Studio is Right in Oak Cliff, home to many artist studios and workshop sites in Dallas. However, they are not in a very crowded area. They are on Colorado and Beckley, close to, but not in Bishop Arts. You can easily park, run in, and grab what you need. They also have large quantities of everything on hand, so that you can make a nice, uniform experience for your students without having to think too much. I always visit them the morning of the workshop to grab treats and snacks, and the experience is super quick and stress-free. Which is what I need when I’m about to teach!
